The Most Common Trend When Starting Out

in Internet Business

I did it.

My coaching students did it.

Recently, my friend did it.

Why has it to be that way? And is it the right way?

When I see this trend, I got to tell you something that is burning inside me. I have to let it out somehow.

It doesn’t matter if you listen and take action on it. But at least I’ve done my part to let you know.

The common thing that I mentioned at the beginning is this:

WHEN WE FIRST STARTED OUT ONLINE, WE PROMOTED AFFILIATE PRODUCTS.

We hoped to make money from promoting someone else’s products.

If you still remember, I mentioned that if you want to build a long lasting business, one of the criteria, is to own your own product.

Of course, it’s easier said than done. That’s the reason why most people (including me) take the easy way out by promoting affiliate programs.

If you’ve read many Internet ebooks written by “gurus,” you can’t help but noticing that many of them teach you how to make money from affiliate programs.

They are not wrong. They are not right either. They are just not telling you the whole picture.

One of the reasons they tell you to do so is they want you to promote their product!

Many people make money from affiliate programs AND many don’t.

In fact, it’s nothing wrong with becoming an affiliate to a third party product. I still do until today.

You have to be smart enough to separate the gems from the crowd.

But what I want you to do now is to think for yourself and your business.

Regardless of whether you have your own product or promoting someone else’s product, you have to make it YOUR business.

If you don’t, you’re at the mercy of the product owners. Most of whom care less about your business.

But how do you do it?

Start building your own list. Your main objective is to grow your list. Build relationship with your list.

And only recommend products that you’ve bought and liked. Or you think it’s beneficial to your list.

I hate it when people promote anything that they get their hands on without considering the quality of the product. They only care for themselves and how much money they make.

If I have no good products to promote, I’ll just keep quiet.

But I digress.

Remember a list is your business asset. No one can steal it from you. No one can replicate it. It’s unique to you and you can use it in negotiating any business deals and ventures (for example, getting a special discount for your list for a product).

Why bother building a list?

Because we’re in for the game of business NOT money making.

Have fun,

Abel Cheng

PS: Don’t worry, soon I will show you how to create your own product even you’re not an expert. And if you want, you don’t need to create the usual Internet marketing B.S. kind of stuff you always see.

Stay tuned!
